The independent developer of SectLauncher (known as ByteFlipper, operating as an individual, not a legal entity) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what information the launcher collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
By using SectLauncher, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. We do not collect or store any Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
1. What Information Do We Collect?
SectLauncher collects the minimum amount of data required to ensure quality app performance:
1.1. Data You Provide Directly
- Cached Account Data: If you log in via a Microsoft (Xbox Live) account, the launcher saves encrypted local authorization tokens (supported by your OS) or in secured app directories.
- Offline Profiles: Usernames entered for “offline” mode use.
- User Settings and Logs: Your instance configurations, allocated memory, JVM arguments, and local error logs are saved only on your device.
Note: SectLauncher never has direct access to your Microsoft password. Authorization occurs via the official OAuth 2.0 protocol directly on Microsoft servers.
1.2. Automatically Collected Data (Telemetry)
To understand how the launcher is used and detect issues, we use analytics services (e.g., Firebase Analytics). Only anonymized data is collected:
- Technical Information: Launcher version, OS type, CPU architecture.
- Usage Events: Facts of launching modpacks, using specific UI features, errors, or crashes.
- Aggregated Performance: Load times, content download speeds.
This data collection is fully autonomous. It strictly does not include personal identifiers, IP addresses, logins, computer names, or your game chat logs. Analytics are 100% anonymous.
2. How Do We Use Your Information?
The collected information is used solely for:
- Product Improvement: Analyzing feature usage helps us understand what needs fixing or expanding.
- Troubleshooting: System error logs and crash reports allow us to quickly patch bugs.
- Basic Functionality: Saving auth tokens eliminates the need to log in on every launch.
We do not sell, trade, or rent our users’ information to third parties.
3. Where is the Data Stored?
The vast majority of your data (instances, mods, tokens, logs) is stored locally on your hard drive inside the SectLauncher working directory. You have full control over these files and can delete them at any time.
Analytical data (telemetry) is transmitted via secure protocols (HTTPS) to the analytics provider’s servers (Google/Firebase) and stored in accordance with their GDPR and security standards.
4. Third-Party Integrations
Our launcher may interact with third-party APIs:
- Modrinth API: For searching and downloading mods. Modrinth may log your IP address during downloads per their Privacy Policy.
- Mojang / Microsoft API: For authorization and downloading Minecraft game files.
- Discord Rich Presence (RPC): To show your game status locally to your Discord client.
The SectLauncher developer is not responsible for data collection by these third-party services.
5. Information Security
We take reasonable technical precautions to protect the data the launcher stores on your computer. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
6. Your Rights and Data Control
- Local Data Deletion: You can delete all accounts in the launcher at any time on the “Accounts” tab. This permanently removes local auth data from your drive.
- Telemetry Opt-Out: The automatic usage statistics (telemetry) collection can be disabled in Settings > System. Uninstalling the launcher completely erases all SectLauncher-related local data from your machine.
- Data Deletion Requests (GDPR/CCPA): Because we operate as an independent developer without a legal entity and do not collect any Personally Identifiable Information (PII), it is technically impossible for us to link any anonymous analytics to you specifically to delete them. The “right to be forgotten” and data deletion requests are therefore only applicable to direct personal correspondence with the developer (e.g., emails or direct messages), which will be deleted upon your request.
7. Changes to the Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to update our Privacy Policy as needed. Significant changes will be reflected within the launcher. Continued use of the launcher after updates constitutes acceptance.
